While the festival of loving bond between brother and sisters, raksha bandhan, was celebrated at the Sangam city, the day also witnessed a unique initiative of protecting environment wherein people tied rakhi to the trees and promised to protect them.Among others, the garden incharge of Allahabad University, Prof N B Singh tied rakhi to around a dozen trees of the Arts campus and Gandhi bhawan. Apart from the faculty member, his students and gardeners employed at AU participated at the event. “The idea of tying rakhi to trees was important because although we plant several trees on different occasions but it is more important to protect them and see to it that they grow properly”, said Prof Singh
