A sign reading no petrol is pictured at a petrol pump as fuel crisis continues in Kathmandu, Nepal October 1, 2015. REUTERS KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday directed Minister for Supplies Deepak Bohara to immediately take initiatives to solve the fuel shortage, which Kathmandu is reeling under for last two days. The Nepalese consumers, especially those residing in the capital valley, act as “once beaten, twice shy” lot whenever it comes to the availability of fuel. They become very panicky whenever they come across news of obstruction in transportation, political demonstration or reports of short supply of fuel from India; they start gathering at petrol stations with a view to hoard the petroleum for future use. This too creates massive shortage of fuel in the market, encouraging black-marketing. There are many who feel that there are more to the NOC’s shortsightedness than meets the eyes. Frequently, artificial fuel shortage is created so that many refilling stations can get an opportunity to provide fuel through unscrupulous means. In the meantime, insufficient supply of fuel in the market creates panic among the consumers, who are ready to pay higher prices.
